Mohamed's Garage and House Fire- Lost Everything

This page is created to help the family of Mohamed Haque residing in Astoria, NY during this difficult time. On December 1st, 2023 around 10pm, a horrific fire caused by a lithium-ion battery explosion burned the entirety of Mohamed's garage and a large fraction of his home into ashes. In an attempt to diminish the fire himself while waiting for help, he suffered from severe respiratory distress and minor injuries. FDNY were successfully able to get the fire under control, however by that time everything was lost and burnt to a crisp. My heart goes out to Mohamed's family, they are well-rooted people known in the community who are always willing to help others. Mohamed's father has always worked very hard to upkeep their home working long hours. What breaks my heart even more is, after FDNY extinguished the fire, Mohamed was approached by a member of Department of Environmental Protection serving them a order to dispose of the damaged battery at a special facility, which costs thousands of dollars. The amount of emotional turmoil that family is under is unimaginable and to make things worse, no department has provided this family with any help. I am reaching out to the community to help Mohamed's family in this time of need. We must unite to help our innocent neighbors in times like these. Mohamed and his family want to thank God and want each one of you to know in advance for any blessings you can bestow. The fire has caused probably over $45,000 worth of damages not including the fear and utter anxiety the family has suffered from. We pray for the families and wish them all the luck through this process and understand how difficult this is for them. Every penny counts.
