Mohamed's Sight-Saving Surgery

Friends and Colleagues:
As some may know, Connections for Seniors' co-founder and Executive Director Mohamed Abdallah has been diagnosed with a rare condition called keratoconus.
Keratoconus is an eye disease that causes the cornea to thin and bulge into a cone-like shape, resulting in blurred vision. Keratoconus is a progressive disease that requires surgery in order to stop the deterioration of the cornea. The continued thinning and deterioration of the cornea can result in blindness. Should blindness occur, Mohamed would require a cornea transplant.
Mohamed is scheduled to have sight-saving surgery in order to stop the progression of the disease, which occurs in approximately 1 in 1000 people according to the Canadian Keratoconus Foundation.
The surgery is not covered by the province's Medical Care Plan (MCP), nor is it covered by other health insurance. The surgery is expected to cost nearly $6000.00. This includes the cost of the surgery, medications, and supplies.
Mohamed is left with no choice but to have the surgery as soon as possible. He is presently experiencing vision problems related to the progression of the disease.
Mohamed has a young family, a wealth of friends, and is admired by many.
His devotion to his children, family, friends and work is beyond measure.
Connections for Seniors' important work would not be possible without Mohamed's leadership, dedication, and vision; both literally and figuratively.
At this time, I would like to ask everyone who knows and adores Mohamed as I do to contribute any monetary amount possible to relieve some of the costs associated with Mohamed's condition that will need to come out-of-pocket.
I feel that if we can circulate this information and meet our goal, that Mohamed will be tremendously relieved of the financial burden associated with this critical surgery; and endlessly grateful for the kindness of friends and colleagues.
Thank you so much for your concern and support!
Sincerely,
Amanda Devlin
