Thank you for taking the time to read this and join my college journey.
Since graduating from high school in 2016, I have done many things. There are three accomplishments, however, of which I am most proud. These are: 1) starting my 501(c)3 organization (RimPower.org), 2) creating a comic book series with two superheroes with disabilities (with more books planned), and 3) being issued my first patent (with 2 more pending). I believe SCAD would be a good fit for me and believe that I have much to bring to the table as well.
I founded Rim Power Inc. right after graduating from high school. Rim Power creates original superheroes based on the real life stories of people with disabilities from around the world. I am an Afghan-American with a spinal cord injury. Being a wheelchair user myself, I want to empower children in wheelchairs around the world; especially children in developing countries like my birth country, Afghanistan. The mission of my non-profit is to promote an accessible world in which every wheelchair user is an integrated member of society who is viewed as enabled rather than disabled.
We launched Wheelchair Man in 2017, Captain Afghanistan in 2018, and Wheelchair Girl in 2019. Comic books for Wheelchair Man and Captain Afghanistan are available both digitally and in hard copy. They can be ordered with their coloring book companions at rimpower.org. Wheelchair Girl will be available in 2020. All our heroes are in pursuit of peace. They have pledged to never use violence. If they do, they lose their supper powers.
One of my major goals over the next five years, is to turn Wheelchair Man into a major motion picture; a blockbuster. I believe that at SCAD I can learn how to fulfill this dream.
On May 28, 2019, my first patent was issued. I have been developing 3D printable, assistive devices. My first patent was for my invention, “The Key 2 Freedom”, a 3D printed universal attachment for wheelchairs, bicycles, strollers or walkers which will allow for the addition of any number of add ons such as phone holders, cup holders, plate holders, umbrellas, and flashlights, among others. While at SCAD, I would like to learn how to effectively and efficiently manufacture my inventions and bring them to market.
