MOHS ESPorts Team Fundraiser

Electronic Sports or "E-Sports", has recently been added as a team sport at Moanalua High School (MOHS). Students that participate will feel just as inclusive in contributing to increasing school pride and morale as those that participate in the more commonly offered athletic opportunities. Our current team consists of 50 students in grades 9 through 12. The league itself began in the 2018-19 school year. We will enter our first year of competition this year. The team here at MOHS could really use your help to ensure that we are successful within the E-Sports competitive arena.
Just as in other sports team members are required to maintain academic eligibility and provide a number of community service hours in order to maintain their position within the team. The games available for play this season are League of Legends, SMITE and Rocket League, which are all games that focus on learning team dynamics.
Some may think that this is just an opportunity for students to sit back and play video games. However, E-Sports participation can not only be found at the core of STEM related learning, but it also promotes and refines intrapersonal skills such as self-efficacy and goal setting. It also helps students and participants develop lifelong abilities such as conflict resolution and assertiveness. Participants will find that cognitive and physical skills such as eye hand coordination, critical thinking and sustained attention are readily enhanced via gameplay.
Although we may be considered an "unorthodox" sport, our athletes face the same issues that any other sports team will face when just starting up, and that is a need for assistance with funding. As our team of athletes grow in skill and development, so will our need to support that growth through the purchase of items necessary for successful team competition.
We will need to obtain software/gameplay licensing for 50 students/5 desktop systems with peripherals, team jerseys and any other hardware/software support equipment. With the start of our season fast approaching on 14 October 2019, we are hoping to be able to enter competition with zero worry of other schools and teams having an edge over us due to equipment access deficiencies or lack of startup funding.
The opportunity to gain access to college grants and scholarships at the secondary level of education has been a highly motivating factor for our athletes to be as skillful at their craft as possible. That can only happen if they have access to the very best equipment available.
Thanks to the graciousness of our Athletic Director and local business PCGamerz, we have overcome the most difficult of them all, and that is the equipment hurdle. Thanks to those mentioned earlier we now have five custom built computer desktop systems, that are sure to support the system rigor associated with competitive E-Sports gameplay.
In order to support the growth of our current and future teams and afford them the opportunities that the more affluent teams who entered the league last school year have, we will eventually need to increase our inventory of systems by 5 desktops, and with that the peripherals that support them.
To our Moanalua Alums and current supporters of Moanalua High School competitive team sports, we thank you in advance for any help that you can provide.
