Mom and babies thrown from car left to die

On Thursday, February 8th, a female dog and her puppies were thrown out of a vehicle. The mom, two live puppies, and four deceased puppies were scattered separately along a five-mile stretch of a dark country road. Local residents, two of whom are part of a local rescue team, secured the two living babies first. The mother was found a few hours later, and the three were reunited.
The three dogs were immediately transported to the McNeely Farmily Rescue and Sanctuary. The rescue team was able to get them in for an emergency appointment where the three-year-old mother was diagnosed with extensive old injuries, extreme malnourishment, anemia, infection, and mastitis. The mastitis is so severe that her milk glands have to be expressed continuously, and she will be placed on antibiotics. Due to her condition, she must be hospitalized in case she goes into shock as she is treated for her malnourishment.
In addition to the above, the mother has an out-of-socket hip injury that has been left untreated for a prolonged period. It’s so old that her femoral head cannot be put back in because the socket is flat instead of curved. Later, she will need a procedure called an FHO, where the femoral head is cut off. However, she needs to be brought to health before having an orthopedic consult for the FHO.
Unfortunately, it is too soon to determine the fate of the male puppy. He suffered soft tissue damage all over his entire body, but no broken bones. As a result of being in pain, he is refusing food.
The female puppy is in better shape, as she likely landed on the grassy bank. She is eating and sustained no broken bones, but she cannot keep food down. She must be evaluated over time as well.
All three dogs are infested with fleas, bringing on anemia.
At this time, all three are being hospitalized together with overnight monitoring by the doctor. The number one goal right now is to stabilize and bring them to health.
We will continue to update you regarding their treatment plans as we get their other test results. Another care plan for the mother's hip will be established once she is brought to health.
