Dear friends and family
This is possibly the most difficult message for me to write – ever
I have been caring for my mother for almost 10 years. After my father’s passing 7 years ago, I took out a policy on my then 85 year old mother in order to cover future burial costs. However I was unfortunately unable to work for an extended period of time, causing severe financial constraints. As a result the policy lapsed.
I eventually obtained employment, but by then the cost of the policy (due to my mothers age) was over $400 per month, which I could not afford.
A week prior to my mother passing on December 10, 2023, I managed to pay the deposit on a Pre-Need plot at a cemetery and a funeral package from a funeral home. The total cost, including the church and repast, was $15000 (the lowest cost in my county), of which I was responsible for and paid $3000. This left a further $12000 to be divided between my four siblings. I received a total of $5700, leaving me to pay the balance of $6300 for the cemetery.
The funeral home (Johnson & Family Life Celebration Center, Fort Lauderdale) has been great. With their assistance I was able to hold a service for my mother and they have promised to keep her body, without further charge, until I can secure the funds for her burial.
I am currently unable to work because I am due to have surgery on December 28th. I have no choice, and cannot afford pride either, in asking my friends and family to assist me in laying my mother to rest. I prayerfully therefore ask if even 100 of my friends can help me by contributing $50 (or whatever you are able to give) to help me to give my mother the burial that she deserves. I understand that some may not be able to give, but ask you to help me by sharing this request AND most importantly please pray for this need.
Blessings and thank you
