Deborah Towell and Family mommy's new liver

Donation protected
Adam Towell and his wife Deborah are facing an overwhelming medical problem that is threatening their family with financial ruin.  Deborah is suffering from a potentially fatal liver ailment that causes pain, extreme fatigue, depression, loss of appetite, sporadic disorientation, and other symptoms. There is no cure for her ailment.  A liver transplant is her only hope for a future life. She is currently on a waiting list but there is no way to know when an appropriate liver will become available. It could be tomorrow, but it could also be many months.

Adam is a self-employed electrician who is well-known for being hard-working, meticulous, reliable, and honest. He is the sole provider for his family.  Because he is also looking after Deborah, he has had to cut back his work schedule drastically.  He and Deborah have three sons, aged 18, 16 and 4.  They are devoted to their mother and help in every way they can. But Deborah’s critical medical condition is taking its toll on them every day.

Deborah’s medical care is an extremely expensive and drawn-out process. Meanwhile she is in and out of the hospital because of complications that include serious blood clotting. The ailment has gradually reduced her mobility to the point that she is bedridden much of the time.  A year ago, she could manage on her own, but now she struggles to move about the house without assistance.  When she is alone chronic pain makes it difficult to do basic things like getting dressed. She is very vulnerable and more prone to serious injury if she falls. In addition to struggling to get herself through each day, she worries about her family, particularly her youngestson.

The Towells have a few friends who help whenever possible,  but both Adam and Deborah are hours away from family and can't afford to pay for extra help. Insurance currently covers some, but not all, of her hospital and medical bills which continue to pile up.  They have been told that after the transplant, she will be on a variety of drugs that will cost $10,000, possibly more, per month. It is unclear how much if any of this expense will be covered by insurance.

Adam and Deborah are thrifty people, but they have all the usual expenses of a family of five. Their income has been reduced by more than half because Adam is now both breadwinner and caretaker. Also, Adam has to drive Deborah to Charlotte several times a month for treatment, and that means a day or more away from his work.  These trips will only increase. Liver failure will accelerate and complicate her medical condition until the transplant is made.  The family is being overwhelmed as her condition worsens and medical bills pile up. That's why we are asking for your financial help now.

The Towell family would never ask for financial assistance themselves.  We decided to launch this fund-raising effort after learning how serious Deborah’s condition is and how it has affected Adam’s ability to earn a living.  They are in a classic bind: medical expenses are rising while family income is going down. We want to demonstrate that there are people who understand their circumstances and are willing to assist in their time of need.

Please help this young family get through this extremely difficult time. We and they appreciate anything you can do, and we ask that you share this request with as many friends as possible.

 Thank you so much!
