Mom's Donuts & Chinese Food to Go Family Emergency
Donation protected
Hi!
Beloved members of the Silver Lake Donut community, my name is Alexis Cabrera and I'm a regular customer of Mom's Donuts and Chinese Food to Go in Silver Lake.
This traditional, no-website, old school hidden gem of a donut shop is a Los Angeles institution. Heidy and Henry, the first-generation immigrant couple who run the donut shop, have worked here NO BREAK from 3 AM to close, baking donuts with the utmost love and highest quality no-recipe-taste-only magic that only a mother can create. They raised their family on this business and if you've been here, you know how truly special it is.
Three months ago, Henry began to have breathing and heart trouble, and this Christmas, he was admitted into the Arcadia ER for a heart attack that would have killed him if he did not receive emergency surgery for three blocked heart valves. The donut shop only runs on the couple, and they've closed their doors to take Henry to the hospital.
This family has no support, and the shop only runs on the work ethic that Henry and Heidy put into it. I am asking for donations to help pay their rent this Christmas. It's a terrible thing to experience over the holidays, and if you know them, you understand that they always give to us without complaint, with total attention, with care and compassion, and their donuts express that.
All proceeds go to Henry's recovery, to the shop, and keeping it alive in a time of need. The donut crumb old fashioned doesn't exist ANYWHERE ELSE ON PLANET EARTH. The Devil's Food cake is Heidy's special recipe and it cannot be emulated. This restaurant is an endangered species and it needs to stay alive, but not without our help.
