Mona Sock - 13 Forever - Every Child Matters
Donation protected
Mona was innocent. She was just 13 years old when she left this world, all alone, feeling unworthy to live. She was vulnerable and victimized. Mona's life matters - Every Child Matters.
Mona's death spurred the review of the New Brunswick First Nation Child Welfare and the subsequent reform.
A report titled, "Hand-In-Hand, A Review of First Nations Child Welfare in New Brunswick," was published in 2010 and dedicated the memory of Mona Sock and Hilary Bonnell.
The community of Esgenoôpetitj has recently come together to march to a site where the monument for Hilary Bonnell was unveiled. Please click the following link below to read more about ceremony, Esgenoopetitj unveils monument for Hilary Bonnell
16 years have passed and there has been no permanent memorial dedicated to Mona in her community.
Mona's life and her tragic death are important reminders of how vulnerable our youth are - let us remember and honour her young life and the lives of every child that is placed in any Child Welfare System.
All funds raised will be used to purchase a memorial to honour Mona, an innocent 13-year-old girl. The memorial will include information, such as a QR code, telephone number to the Kids Help Phone, etc. so no other child will ever feel as alone as Mona did - they will be able to reach out for help and feel safe doing so.
A designated location will be selected, within the Elsipogtog First Nation community, upon the approval of the Chief and Council.
