Support Women's Shelter Art Group
Donation protected
The Monday Art Group (MAG) is a weekly art group that is facilitated by the Red Wagon Collective that takes place at a women's shelter in the Junction in west Toronto. We have been going since 2009.
The MAG is a much loved art group and an important healing space for women who experience the stresses of homelessness and insecure housing. During the art group, members come together to share time, knowledge, laughs and creativity. We work on personal items for ourselves, each other, and for our loved ones. As well, we do larger public projects that show the lived experiences, knowledge and expressions to do with homelessness, institutional violence and the creative vitality of the community.
While we have received small bits of funding in the past, we are currently out of funds. This art group is run on free labour, but we do need money to buy art supplies, snacks and tokens for the weekly group, as well as to do large projects such as exhibitions, publishing, poster projects, installations and collaborative work with other artists.
While ongoing art spaces that are accessible to women who experience homelessness are important, they are hard to find funding for. Any amount of support will be greatly appreciated by this group.
Members of the MAG have contributed prizes for the top 5 donatations:
a hand beaded key chain
three laminated original drawings by Rayla Moonias
a print on fabric of a banner project image
