Money for Mela

Hi everyone,
It is with a heavy heart that I tell you that my host sister from Belize, Amelia, has been diagnosed with a brain tumor. She was hospitalized on Friday, 8/16/19. She is rapidly losing her sight, speech, and her ability to walk and even eat.
Amelia (Mela for short) is a bright, funny, charismatic, 13 year old girl. I was more than honored to be part of her family when I was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Belize from '13-'15. Though almost 6 years ago now, I can still vividly remember the first time she came to my bedroom door. She was wearing this little maroon skirt and an olive green shirt that happened to be her favorite. "Summer?" the tiny, shy voice said as I looked up from unpacking my bag. She gestured her hand, "Do you like?" She was holding a perfectly ripe mango, freshly picked off the tree in our front yard. I melted! That was my second day ever with my host family and she had already made me feel so welcomed. She was only 7.
(Sonson, Mela, Me-2014)
Mela and the whole Rash family hold a special place in my heart. Mela is scheduled for brain surgery on August 20th, but without a deposit of $3,500 USD they cannot perform it. We're asking family and friends to donate so that she can get the medical care she needs.
Please help us give her a fighting chance <3 this 13 year old deserves it.
