Money stolen for endangered Whio duck
Donation protected
BlackFern Lodge, located in the central north island of New Zealand has a program in place to save the endangered Whio. This is a small blue duck that is native to New Zealand. It is believed to have only 1000 breeding pairs left in the world. They have a donation box located on the property where somebody broke into the donation box and stole the money. They use this money to trap predators and help with the breeding program. This is in conjunction with the New Zealand conservation department.
The Whios notoriety is that it is on the back of the New Zealand $10 bill.
