Monica; a giving Mom & Grandma needs our Help.

Donation protected
Monica has been suffering with her health for many months now. It started with a stroke in early March, which led her to be hospitalized for multiple days. The area that was affected was in the Basal Ganglia - at this time she was also diagnosed with a rare disorder called APS (Antiphospholipid syndrome), which in simple terms, causes severe blood clots. This left her with limited function on her left side. She had to undergo extreme physical therapy throughout the week for months to regain her strength and mobility. This helped her reach her new normal, which consisted of limited ability to work, multiple medications, along with injections to get her by day to day.

Throughout this adjustment, Monica had many more responsibilities added to her plate that was already full. She is a full-time caregiver to her 32-year-old special needs brother (she has raised him since he was 12 years old), a caregiver to her granddaughter, and has many other financial obligations.

Fast forward to May, more complications have risen. On Saturday, May 8th, Monica was hospitalized. She lost her full ability of speech and function of her right side. After many blood draws, MRI’s, and a Spinal tap, we still do not know what has caused Monica to be in this condition. She received an MRI on May 9th, which showed Monica has multiple lesions on the left front side of her brain, this is what is affecting her speech and full function on her right side.

As of May 19th, 2021, Monica is still hospitalized without a definitive diagnosis. She has another MRI scheduled to see if there is any improvement in her brain from the current steroid treatment plan. Depending on the upcoming MRI results - our treatment plan switches to collect a brain biopsy and at the same time start plasma freezes every 6 weeks to target her Lupus, an auto-immune disease, which she was diagnosed with over a decade ago. Most people are unaware of how strenuous it is to live with Lupus, and she has lived with, while handling the stressors of life, with grace.

At this current time, we are at a dead end but are committed to Monica and her current challenges. We have a very trying upcoming battle. After she is discharged from the hospital (no expected release date yet) she will need to attend an Acute Rehabilitation Center for a minimum of two vigorous weeks. During that time, she will be undergoing occupational, physical, and speech therapy.

We are reaching out to our community for help. Monica is very loved by many and we want to give her the best chance of getting as close to her previous abilities of function as possible. Her daughter, Angelique, is committed to being her caretaker, will manage any funds and take on this responsibility, since Monica has lost the ability to independently function. We are seeking any financial help to get the best treatments, take care of her and her previous obligations, and for her to remain afloat until she can go back to work. Financial stress on top of this is nothing she needs to be worried about. She needs all her energy and focus going towards getting back to her normal, giving, loving self. She is the first person to help others and she deserves all the help she receives.  At this point in time, we are looking at many months before returning to work is an option.

On behalf of her family – We thank you in advance and please share if you are able to, anything helps! We really appreciate your time, prayers, and support for Monica!
