Monica - Mother - Teacher - Cancer Warrior

Hi, my name is Fernetta; I am fundraising for Monica, an outgoing, motivated, hard-working mother of four beautiful girls who was unfortunately diagnosed with breast cancer in January of 2022. During that time, she worked as a teacher in a local Early Head Start program. Monica is a dedicated single mother with a commendable work ethic and a heart for serving others. During her early days of chemotherapy and radiation, Monica would ride the bus to her appointments and then come to work and give 100% to the children under her care, all while caring for her girls and herself. Watching her in action was an inspiration to all those around her. She never once complained about what the cancer and treatments were doing to her body or her mind. Although I can attest that she has never let it touch her "spirit"! She stayed in faith and showed up for her girls, students, and those who depended on her.

During the months leading up to her surgery, she saved as much money as possible to supplement her disability benefits. Despite her efforts, the expenses have become overwhelming. In fact, she had no idea that one surgery would lead to another surgery and that over a year after her initial diagnosis, she would still be out of work, facing yet another surgery which would lead to more expenses and extreme stress.
