About her:

As many of our close friends and family know, our lives were irrevocably and tragically changed on March 12th, 2019 when my mother and father’s car was struck by another in a horrific collision. Monica Villanueva, at just 62-years-young—our vibrant, beautiful, loving, and joyful angel—was called home to heaven that day. Her soulmate, our father Claudio Villanueva, survived the crash, and we are blessed that he is still here with us, but the physical injuries he sustained (to say NOTHING of the shock, grief, and other emotional trauma) from that day require medical procedures, equipment, medicine and therapy.  Our father’s new reality of pain and anguish will take time, prayers, and understanding and compassion from you…but the financial strain is also very real and more pressing. In addition to the growing medical bills, we have flown our grandmother in from Chile so she could lay her daughter to rest and be with us during this period of mourning. We are thankful for all of our extended family, friends, colleagues, and even acquaintances that have reached out to help during this difficult time. Thank you for supporting, and loving us when we’ve needed it the most.

Our parents lived very simple lives, and were so healthy and envisioned traveling the world together that planning or saving for such an event never crossed their minds. We also NEVER thought we would be typing and asking for friends, family, perhaps even strangers to send money…and yet, we also thought we had decades more to call our mother, to hang out with her, and to laugh with her. This has torn that all away from our family and we know there is nothing we can ask for that will change that. Your thoughts and prayers are of course welcome, but we know when we have learned of a friend suffering a tragedy that we wanted to do something tangible and immediately impactful. We can assure you, the expenses are adding stress to our father’s and our lives and any amount you can send will not only alleviate some of the “how do we pay…” uncertainty, but it is something we can share with our father to show him how fondly our mother is remembered and how people want to be here for him. We are grateful for the life she gave us, and hope that we can honor her by taking care of our father during this challenging time. Thank you.
