Monica's fight with Cholangiocarcinoma

At a young age, Monica was diagnosed with Wilson’s Disease, where the liver is unable to

break down copper so it accumulates in the liver. The course of this disease most likely led to

Monica's Bile Duct Cancer (Cholangiocarcinoma) diagnosed in 2017. A very rare and

aggressive cancer.

In all of this, Monica refused to give up her dreams. She had a brief period of no evidence of

disease and she brought to this world her miracle baby against all odds — another reason for

her determination to fight and live.

Monica received extensive treatment for the disease, including liver resection surgery, however,

the cancer kept spreading. The disease metastasized to the lungs and lymph nodes and Monica

underwent radiation and chemotherapy that continues to the present day.

After exhausting all conventional treatment options, Monica’s only hope at the present moment

is finding access to a clinical trial, which will most likely be away from her home or funding a

medication out of pocket at which costs are astronomical.

She is also using her strength and energy to research complementary therapies and a

promising treatment at IOZK clinic in Germany offers further hope of attacking this aggressive

cancer. The treatment estimate is around 120,000 Euros.

This is Monica’s only hope. Without one of the treatments, her chance of survival is dismal, her

doctors estimate that without treatment she has only 1 year to live.

medications and trial expenses so Monica can focus her energy on fighting this deadly cancer.

Each day she buys more time until a next and better treatment option opens up, as only time will

increase her chances of surviving.

Monica has proven to us what a determined warrior she is, surpassing the 3 year survival

statistics. She has shown how deep her love of life and her family is. She is a fighter that has
