Monie & Michael Muldoon: House Fire Recovery Fund

Tuesday night, a devastating fire started near Maple and Homewood in La Mesa, which then burned rapidly through the 40-year home of Monie and Michael Muldoon.

We are the Jones family, and we join together with their children Morgan Davis, Sean Muldoon, and Conor Muldoon, as well as many other friends, family, and community members to ask for your help in supporting Monie and Michael Muldoon. These long-time La Mesans have a long long history of giving love and support to children, teenagers, young adults and generally, anyone in need.

This is a heartbreaking situation for any family at any time, but even more so around the holidays. The Muldoons are special people - not only does Monie run the Monie & Mo'sfood pantry from their home, but they have shared their love as "surrogate parents" to many over the years. The Muldoon home has always been open to all and has become Home to many. The loss of this space is deeply felt throughout our community of friends and family.

Everyone is safe (including the dogs, and Ylang the bearded dragon). Monie and Michael both spent the night in the hospital, with Michael being treated for smoke inhalation, and burns to his nose and throat. We are so so grateful that they are alive.

But they lost nearly everything, and their home will be uninhabitable for a great deal of time.

Family and friends have ensured they have a roof over their heads in these first few nights, and we hope that insurance will eventually cover many costs. But the road ahead is long and difficult. Many near-term costs will need to be covered out of pocket, and many possessions are unlikely to ever be covered at full value. (How do you possibly value a collection of nearly 400 vinyl records, collected, curated, and contributed to, by many over the years?)

This loving family, and our community, have suffered a great loss. Anything you can contribute will go directly to them, to assist them in these challenging times, just as they have selflessly assisted others across the years. We hope to help expedite the return of the safe and loving space that is The Muldoon Home, and ensure that Monie & Mo’s can continue serving children and families in need.
