Monique & Linda

Hi everyone, my name is Vera. Thank you firstly for taking the time to visit. The world we live in right now has been one that I am sure every one of us has suffered in some way, shape, or form. And it is in times like these that we usually can tell ourselves, "well, someone is going through a lot worse than me"! Unfortunately for my beautiful friend Monique, it's hard to be able to comprehend that these days.

When I found out my dear friend Monique, had been on a silent journey of despair when she learned her partner Linda's cancer had become terminal, my heart cried for her. Sadly I know all too well the destruction and turmoil that is Cancer. It is relentless, ruthless, and does not discriminate. They have done everything they can to fight it, but Linda is now in home-based palliative care.

To know Mon is to know what strength is! Having been diagnosed herself with progressive MS some years ago now, the uncertainty of her own physical capability and deterioration was worrying enough. Until, of course, the C word took hold of the love of her life, thus beginning years of hospital visits, surgeries, medication, and around-the-clock care.

Mon has, without protest or complaint, become a full-time nurse/carer. Juggling this along with her full-time work obligations has been quite the mission, exhausting all of her sick/carers and annual leave to date. With Linda deteriorating as days pass by, and with the inevitable sadly in sight, any time off Monique would need to take care of Linda would be unpaid.
