Monique's Children - DRC HOME

Monique and just a few of her children DRC HOME - the orphanage she founded in Beni, DRC.
Monique Kabugho Murandya is one of the most extraordinary women I've met in my travels. She is a candidate for provincial MP in North Kivu and was a participant in a women's campaign school sponsored by the McCain Institute. Monique told me she was running for public office to bring attention to the plight of the many orphans here in Beni who are a product of poverty and war the likes of which most American's can't even fathom. I asked if I could visit her orphanage after meeting her and she eagerly agreed. Currently, Monique has 72 children under her care - 32 of whom live with her - the other stay in various foster homes. Most of them are people who can not afford to feed them or send them to school - so Monique takes responsiblity for them too.
Monique is in dire straights - she hasn't paid the rent on the home in over a year and owes over $7,200 in back rent. She is in very real danger of losing the place that she and 32 children call home. Also, she owes over $2,300 in school fees - and that is just her debt. She has so much to maintain going forward. After visiting DRC HOME and meeting some of the children I knew some of my friends might be willing to help her. My fundraising goal represents a very real budget for Monique and her kids for the year - this includes her rent (back rent), food, medical supplies, school fees, and some other misc household items like soap and towels. I then slapped on an ambitious $100K more for more of a "Capital Campaign" to build a proper home for her the children.
