Monkey the Cat needs emergency surgery - pls help!
On Friday afternoon, our black cat Monkey appeared to have something in her mouth, but upon further inspection we were alarmed to discover it was her bottom tooth sticking out at an unnatural angle. Here’s a pic we managed to get (she’s in pain, so a lot less cooperative for pictures) -(Not sure why we can only post horizontal photos on GoFundMe?)
We called around to see if any vets could see her asap. After doing a full physical examination they said she’s in great shape but she has a genetic issue with her teeth / jaw to have so many problems at a young age: she has a severely inflamed mouth and needs at least 6, if not all, of her teeth pulled (some apparently have already fallen out on their own). They won’t know for certain beyond the 6 teeth they can see need pulling asap until they’re able to do x-rays. We learned that as predators, cats are especially good at hiding their pain and she’s been in a lot of it.
My partner is heartbroken because she is severely disabled (she has to spend most of her time in bed) and Monkey is her constant snuggle companion and best friend. Monkey follows her everywhere and is almost always on top of or next to my partner, which she loves - she calls Monkey her “best pain management protocol.” The thought of Monkey having been in pain for so long is very upsetting. Here they are in very typical sleeping positions for them:
(this was a few months after we first found Monkey on the verge of starving to death and nearly blind - she still had a “fever coat” from being so ill, giving her a salt & pepper appearance for a while)
The cost of Monkey’s surgery is far beyond anything we can afford so we decided to make this GoFundMe... It’s really difficult for me to ask for help, but with my partner on a *very* small disability income and myself having been unable to work for over a year because of the pandemic, we don’t have any other way to pay for Monkey’s necessary surgery in a few weeks.
Any amount will help, and if you’re not in a financial position to donate (we understand!!), please consider sharing this fundraiser with any fellow cat / animal lovers and/or just generous human beings you may know.
Thank you!
