Monopoly Board Walking Challenge

My name is Sarah and I volunteer for Survivors of Bereavment by suicide and help to run the lichfield group . In 1990 my lovely brother Daniel took his own life at the age of 25 and I now help to support others that have also been bereaved by suicide. I am taking part in the Monopoly Board Walking Challenge on June 15th 2023 in London with a few of our members. The idea is that we visit every spot on the Monopoly board starting off on The Old Kent Road and finishing in Mayfair. We will take a photo as we reach each stop and believe that it will take us between 10 and 12 hours to complete.

It's coming up to a year since the start of our group and we wanted to mark this occasion by spreading awareness of our amazing charity and hopefully raising some money along the way. Each year we have to raise money to pay the rental on the building that we use each month and also our phone bill so that people can get in touch with us. It would be a big weight off our minds knowing that we don't have to worry about finding £300 to cover these two bills.

Since our first meeting last June we have had 44 people reach out to us who have been bereaved by suicide. There's no other bereavment like it and our members get comfort from coming to our meetings. They can talk openly about their feelings without judgement and with people who truly understand. When people first come to our meetings they are often broken and bemused but as they leave they are less frightened and scared and feel more comforted. We always say that you should never underestimate the power of hearing a little bit of yourself in someone else's story and by coming to our group they know that they are not alone. Nobody that has lost to suicide should suffer on their own.
