Aloha,

As some of you may know or may not know, I have been diagnosed with Her 2+ Metastatic Breast Cancer. My diagnosis began in May and I started chemotherapy on May 31st. My treatments are every 3 weeks and I am a little over half way done with chemotherapy treatment. Surgery is a possibility depending on how my body responds to my treatments.

I live on the Big Island of Hawai’i and have been here for 7 years. I work for a tours company as a retail sales associate and I am a kayak tour guide as well. Due to my diagnosis I could not do my kayak tours. As much as I miss paddling, I needed to get my body healthy first before getting back on the water.

Once being diagnosed I had some big decisions I had to make. One of those decisions being that there was not the proper care available to me on the Big Island of Hawai’i. Healthcare is limited on the Big Island and there is no available oncologist on sight. My doctor then directed me to an oncology doctor on Oahu, Hawai’i. At that time I was told that if I received my chemotherapy treatment on Oahu I would have to live here temporarily. As I would not be able to travel back and forth from the Big Island to Oahu since I will have a very weakened immune system due to the chemotherapy treatments.

I am reaching out to family and friends to help me through this difficult time. Medical bills are starting to pile up and even every day expenses. I still have a long road of recovery ahead of me even with being halfway through my treatments. I am asking for help if you can and if you are unable please share.
