Support after major accident

Hi, my name is John Hepler. I have to say a month and a half ago I didn't understand or believe in GFM but finding myself in the position I am in now, I get it. About 6 weeks ago, March 22, I was helping my neighbor on his roof. It was almost dinner time and I decided to give him about 5 more minutes. I was working my way backwards down the roof. I stopped and looked behind me and saw I had about 3 feet left. I continued working and took 1 too many steps. I fell about 15 feet down onto concrete on my back. I blacked out for a short time and when I regained consciousness I was struggling to breathe. I was able to take very short breaths while at the same time moving my arms and legs to confirm to myself that I was not paralyzed and that they still worked. I knew I was messed up bad however. 911 was called and the ambulance arrived. After assessing me and doing what they could, life flight was called and I was flown about 40 miles away to a trauma center. That whole time they were unable to give me pain meds due to not being able to get an IV into me. At the trauma center they were finally able to get an iv and medication into me and were able to do x-rays and a cat scan. The neuro surgeon took one look at me and said I really messed myself up good. I broke all but 2 vertebra and I broke 6 ribs. The soonest they could do surgery was the following day. That was the worst night of my life. The pain was unbelievable even with pain meds on board. 10am the following morning they finally took me in to surgery. 9.5 hours later I woke up from surgery. The next few days were a blur of pain and medications. After 2 weeks at the trauma center, in a neck brace where all I could see was the ceiling, I was moved to a physical therapy rehab center. My time at the rehab center was a pleasant experience. I was still wearing a back and neck brace but I progressed very fast, and they had me up and walking in a few days and working on the rest of my body to rebuild strength. 2 weeks at rehab and I am finally home. My doctor said I would not be able to work for at least a year if ever again. I was a self employed handyman. I am ineligible for social security but am looking to hire a lawyer to help fight this but it is not a guarantee. I now find myself in a position of needing help. I am hopeful that I will get some kind of disability but I still have bills and need to eat. On top of everything, the incision on my spine opened up about 4 inches and became infected. I have a home health aid that comes once a day to help me with the wound care. If you can find it in you to donate, anything helps. If you cannot donate please help share my story. Thank you.
