Many of you are very familiar with the challenges Deuce has faced over the last 12 years but for those of you new to his journey I would like to introduce you to the most determined person I’ve ever met. At the age of 10, Deuce was diagnosed with a cavernous malformation in his brainstem that required surgical removal. The surgery was apparently successful as a he quickly regained most of his motor function within a few months. However, less than a year after the surgery Deuce began experiencing blurred vision and we later learned he would require another surgery in the same location. Following this surgery Deuce’s motor skills were significantly more deficient. He worked diligently for months to regain the ability to walk and eventually began playing sports again! He refused to give up on himself and manifested a spirit of determination few can imagine. Over the last 10 years, Deuce has undergone several more brain surgeries that have continued to test his will. Then in April 2022 he suffered an episode that resulted in him spending more than a week in the ICU. His heart had stopped for several minutes and the result has been very damaging to his ability to walk and talk. Through his amazing work ethic and dogged determination, Deuce has returned to school and continues to push forward with his life. However, he now needs your help to secure a service dog specially trained to assist people with balance challenges. The total cost of the dog and training is in excess of $5000.00 and we are asking for your help in making this a reality for the most remarkable person. We thank you for your support.
