Monty the Maine Coon and his poorly hips.

Hi my name is Andy and I live with my wife and daughter in Norwich, with our two Maine Coon cats, Maisey and Monty. I’m desperately hoping to get some help for our lovely boy cat Monty.

We have only had Monty for 18 months or so and he isn’t yet two years old but has very sadly developed hip dysplasia (both his hips are out of their sockets). This is causing him a great deal of discomfort and he is currently on daily pain meds until we can get him the operation he requires.

The operation he needs is known as a Femoral Head Ostectomy (FHO) which involves the removal of the head and neck of the femur (the ball part of the hip). This will allow scar tissue to then fill the void where the hip once was and with a little home based physio therapy, he should get back to nearly as good as new but minus the pain.

Unfortunately the FHO procedure is very costly and although we do have pet insurance, they will only cover approximately £3000 of the projected £10,000 bill. My hope is that if we could get half of the expected bill, that would set us well on the way to getting our boy the surgery he needs.

I have never contemplated using anything like this before but I’m desperate to get our boy fixed and without help the alternative outcome for Monty is an awful one, especially at such a young age.
