Monty vs MND Community Week
During the week commencing Monday 20th May 2024, we will be holding the first of our new annual Montgomery Community weeks. The aim of this week is to get the whole school involved with raising money and awareness for a cause close to the school's heart, and which is important to us or our community.
This year, our chosen cause is ‘Mind Over MND.’, a charitable project that you may already know is run by our very own PE lead, Mr Holding, supported also by Miss Harris. ‘Mind Over MND.’ is a project that supports and fundraises for the Team Evo vs MND fund and the Darby Rimmer MND Foundation, as well as attempting to raise awareness of the illness for the Motor Neurone Disease community as a whole.
Mr Holding and Miss Harris have spent a lot of their free time and love, supporting their good friend and Exwick local Pete Eveleigh, who was diagnosed with MND in November 2022. Pete (known to his friends as Evo), is a 32-year-old husband and father of a 4-year-old son, as well as being one of Mr Holding’s closest friends since he, himself was in primary school.We feel it's only right to support them in this and show them we are right behind them, as our wonderful Montgomery family always does so well!
We will be both fundraising and raising awareness in a number of ways between 20th-24th May 2024, with all funds to be donated to Mind Over MND., where it will be split equally between directly supporting Pete and his young family, and being donated to the DarbyRimmer MND Foundation, which funds research into the condition and supports others who are diagnosed with the disease. Our fundraising and awareness activities will include;
Monty vs MND Marathon Challenge
Inspired by Mr Gill and his support for the cause last year, we are challenging the Montgomery school community to pull together over the course of our charity week to see "How many marathons can Monty complete in one week?". Pupils from Reception to Year 6 will have the opportunity to walk or run for 15-minutes every day during normal school hours, to rack up as many collective laps and miles as they can.
We would love any support you can to help us fundraise for this very worthy cause.
