Mookie the Ewok Heart Fund

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Walquiria, but my family and friends call me by my nickname Vicky. I am a widowed senior living alone on a fixed income, and I decided to adopt Mookie as my pet and companion. Mookie is a four month old long coat “apple head” Chihuahua. She was given her name because of her resemblance to an Ewok character called Mookiee in a Star Wars movie.

She is much more than a pet and companion, and provides me with a very real medical benefit as a quasi service dog. After contracting Covid in 2021, I developed atrial fibrillation which was treated with an ablation. I was recently diagnosed with mild sleep apnea and informed that it can worsen Afib. After I adopted Mookie in August, and she more or less decided she was going to sleep in my bedroom, I have not experienced disruptive sleep and feel rested every morning.

Mookie’s medical condition is much more serious because a heart murmur detected during her first veterinary visit increased in volume by her second vet visit a month later. She underwent an EKG that confirmed she was born with a birth defect known as Patent Ductus Arteriosus or PDA. A veterinary cardiological surgeon said early detection and corrective surgery will insure near certainty of normal heart function with a strong probability the left ventricle enlargement will diminish returning the heart to it’s normal size. Otherwlse her life expectancy is 1 to 2 years of progressive heart failure with medications to alleviate her suffering.

Mookie and I will be on this journey together, but we desperately need help with the financial burden it entails. We’re asking for any donation you can give to help provide Mookie with the opportunity of a natural lifespan.

The amount for Mookie’s surgery and overnight stay at a care facility will cost $11,663. Mookie and I appreciate and thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your compassion and generosity in donating to her fundraiser.

I’ve included a copy of Mookie’s EKG and an itemized treatment plan for Mookie’s surgery scheduled for Wednesday, October 25, 2023.
