Moonstone Rescue Marmoset Enclosure Expansion

As many of you know, Moonstone Rescue doesn't just deal with British wildlife; we also take in and care for exotic animals, such as the six Marmosets we have in our care.

All 6 marmosets came to Moonstone with very unique stories, some sad, others not so sad; however, they are all here for a reason.

With laws starting to change as of next year, we need to extend our existing enclosures. This will improve our ability to be able to say yes to helping those who need us most.

The sheer number of calls for the surrender of Marmoset this year grew to an all-time high. We are fortunate with our friends within rescue across the UK, and we were able to house all of them. We do expect that over the coming years those numbers will rise exponentially, and as and when they do, we need to be in a fighting-fit position to be able to help.

Today we have set up a small fundraiser; we need to raise £3500. This money will pay for the extension to their existing external enclosure. This also pays for the base, electrics, lighting, heating, and bedding for their new indoor enclosure. This will also cover items for enrichment. We don't just want to give these animals the minimum to survive. We want these animals to thrive.

As with any exotic animals, the care and housing they require to thrive and live long, happy lives is a specialist. They require a unique diet, specially trained exotics vets, along with the energy costs to ensure they have the right heated and lit environment for both indoor and outdoor enclosures. These are continuous costs, which we give to these animals to ensure they are healthy and happy. We want to be able to help more of these animals when needed, as many rescues are becoming full.

We have slightly overestimated what we actually need, simply for the reason that this year we ran out of physical space to take anymore Marmosets in. By raising the £3500 for the extension and renovations, we will be able to continue to move forward, providing the best care possible for these wonderful creatures, allowing us to help more that are surrendered when the laws come into place.
