Moots Flood Relief

Professor Glenn Moots of Northwood University and his family are among the thousands who had to evacuate their homes in Midland, Michigan, on May 19-20, 2020. Multiple dams near Midland failed after heavy rains. The area flooded, and the flood waters mixed with chemicals from industrial sites nearby. (See this writeup  in the Houston Chronicle.)

The water inside Glenn’s home rose to an estimated five feet deep. His personal library, built up over decades as a university professor, was completely destroyed. The inventory he and his wife had built up for their home-based business was also wiped out. At the moment, we do not know whether the damage to the house can be mitigated, or whether the building will be a total loss.

Like many other families, the Mootses did not carry flood insurance because their home was not designated as being in a flood plain. This disaster has put an incredible financial burden on them. They have shown hospitality and kindness to many people over the years, and we hope that now many people will step up to help them in this time of need. Please consider making a personal gift to the Moots family during their time of need.
