More Devastating Earthquakes Hit Southern Phils

A magnitude 6.6 earthquake struck the Southern Philippines on Tuesday 29 October 2019 leaving at least seven killed and widespread damage.

The epicenter of the earthquake was very close to my hometown Matanao Davao del Sur Philippines. Homes have been destroyed by the recent earthquake with many more sustaining significant damage from the shaking.

This was the second powerful earthquake to strike Mindanao in just a couple of weeks. The region experienced a 6.3 magnitude earthquake on 16  October 2019, killing five. And as I am writing this,  another 6.5 magnitude struck again killing at least five people and damaging buildings and houses already rattled by two previous deadly tremor. With these three major earthquakes, thousands of aftershocks rocked the place. Lots of people were displaced including my family and is still in a state of recovery until today. At this time they are living in a makeshift tents with no idea until when. My name is Ligaya Ninte from Albany Western Australia and as I was once a resident of this community, I know how hard life can be, much more in this kind of situation. Thus I am raising these funds to help them.

Although the Philippine Government is helping families, certain restrictions mean not all community members will be eligible for this support.

I humbly ask for your generosity. All donations needed no matter how big or small. These funds will go towards their temporary shelter, tents, food and other basic necessities. Your support will mean so much to them.

The funds will be withdrawn by myself and will be deposited to my recipient Rowena Padasay Naveses. She will then purchase materials for temporary shelter, tents, food, water and other basic necessities.  All of these will be distributed to all affected families with the help of the Barangay Captain of Poblacion Matanao Davao del Sur Mrs Nelsa Albarracin.
