I am a former electrician, with a neurological disorder that I believe is MS, but I'm looking for help to transition from a life of labor my body will no longer support. I am working hard to try and support myself as a writer but need your help to get ready to promote and market my books.
I am suffering from a degenerative neurological disorder which has forced me from my former career as a commercial electrician. I have seen doctors and believe it's MS but have no insurance and can't afford further diagnosis at this time. What I do know is having uncontrollable tremors while working on scaffolding and handling high-voltage wires was no longer a safe career path.
I am still able to work part-time doing more basic labor, so I've been able to pay my bills, but I don't make nearly as much as I did as an electrician, and as the disease progresses, that, too, may become more difficult.
Fortunately, I have one marketable skill that I believe will let me support myself for years to come. I am a writer. I have been a writer at heart all my life, but truly dedicated myself to the effort when my health started to fail. My first published book, House of Apache Fires (link:) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00OVA7AW6 Is my 2nd book, and has recently been chosen by the local library for a community outreach program in April of this year. I find this very exciting, and yet, very humbling.
Unfortunately, one of the requirements is public speaking. I normally have no fear of that, but am currently extremely self-conscious due to major dental repair needs that I have not been able to afford. A tetracycline baby, I have lost several teeth and badly need a partial upper denture to make me reasonably presentable for public appearances. That will not resolve all of my dental issues but will do enough to help me personally represent my books. This partial upper will cost me around $850.
Next, to leverage this upcoming burst of publicity I need to be ready with additional, concurrent, marketing and promotion. Specifically, I will be working with a friend to create a website and blog to feature my books, and I want to purchase a vinyl “wrap” that will turn my old pickup into a rolling billboard. That will cost about $500.
In total, then, I am hoping to raise $1500 to prepare for my spring promotional events and to jump-start my writing career. (Any extra funds, if raised, would be used carefully for additional marketing and advertising.)
I will have my 3rd book, another historical thriller, out sometime in February. I am currently editing my 4th book, (literary fiction) and reediting my 1st novel, which is also literary fiction, to get to my agent. I hope to have a two-book deal sometime this summer, but there are no guarantees in this business. (I self-published HOAF.)
I am also already about 1/2 way through my 5th novel, another historical thriller, which is a 'prequel' to HOAF, and should be done with it mid-summer.
House of Apache Fires has 69 reviews with a 5-star rating. I have never asked for help, and hate doing it, but I could really use some now. This money could make all the difference in my 'Big Day' on April 14th, and in it being a success or not. Between that and some additional marketing, as well as having 5 books out by this time next year, I hope to be making a modest living as a writer by then. I write because I love language and I love the written word. Stories allow us to visit places, travel through time and experience extraordinary events. Regardless of our bodies’ limitations, I do not believe there are any limitations on our souls.
