Morgan Scherer Job Loss, Mobility, & Healthcare $$

We've got an overflow of hard things all at the same time that is overwhelming our resources, so we are asking for help. I lost my job due to declining health from COVID+chronic illness, and Sofia, my wife, has developed Post COVID Syndrome, which threatens our only remaining income.
With the loss of my job, my entire family is losing pretty good healthcare coverage, including dental/vision, and access to therapies and some of the multiple specialists we need to manage our complex chronic illnesses (for myself, my young adult son, and now Sofia). The remaining specialists are private pay and extremely expensive, so we will need support to continue being able to see them.
So far, we have really been depending on Sofia's generally high level of health, so that she can be the one who does most of the things that require moving around: cooking, laundry, playing with Pippin (our three year old child), errands, etc… . But since she has now developed Long COVID, I am going to need to be more independently mobile, and be able to do much more, including errands with Pippin.
Unfortunately, there’s barely even acknowledgement that disabled parents exist, let alone structural support of our needs as partners, parents, and people capable and worthy of independence. In order to meet my family’s needs, I need to acquire some mobility and transportation equipment, none of which is available through insurance. This equipment is incredibly expensive, and we have already gone into debt to purchase some necessary elements. With the loss of my income, paying the loan is unsustainable.
We are having this gofundme to be able to purchase mobility equipment, as well as pay for out of pocket medical specialists and prescriptions, and give us a little breathing room while we transition to a new insurance and new specialists. If we go above our goal, that can help pay for more childcare, and some critical home repairs that have needed to be deferred, like replacing our dangerously rotten front steps.
We have received so much support from various people throughout this at times incredibly demoralizing, and constantly expensive journey. Thank you for reading, donating if you can, and caring about us! ❤️
