My Thailand Volunteer Trip

Donation protected
Hey Y'all,

I'm honored to say that I have been accepted to participate in the International Student Volunteers (ISV) summer program!

Before I go on, please take the time to visit the ISV website to get a better understanding of why I want to partake in such an amazing cause!

I have chosen to participate in the Thailand 4-week program (a 2-week Community Development project followed by a 2-week action-packed adventure tour of the country).

Throughout high school, I participated and served leadership positions in countless service oriented projects and organizations such as Key Club, Relay for Life and Habitat for Humanity.

Since coming to Utah State (fall of 2013), I have joined a sorority (Kappa Delta). Becoming part of this organization has changed my life in ways I can't explain. It has taught me to strive for confidence, leadership and to live by our open motto, which is Ta Kala Diokomen meaning, "Let us strive for that which is honorable, beautiful, and highest." It's because of this motto and the loving sisterhood that I have continued to serve. I now hold a position as a Sisterhood Enrichment Team leader, and the chapter's Chaplain (providing weekly boosts of wisdom and inspiration to my sisters).

Our Kappa Delta chapter philanthropies include Girl Scouts of the USA and Prevent Child Abuse America. It's through the service projects that I have done this year with these organizations

(serving as mentors to the Girl Scouts, putting on a ShamrockNRun 5K, and working with our local Child and Family Support Center) that I have gratefully been able to hold onto my passion of helping others.

Despite these accomplishments, I can genuinely say that I haven't participated in as many service-oriented projects this past year as I had hoped. I am constantly seeking to expand my world views, while maintaining a focus on the lives of others around me.

With this being said, I am dedicated to make a change in the lives of others, and I feel that going to Thailand with 25-35 other participants who share my passion for service is a perfect place to start!

Most projects will incorporate both conservation and community development, so I plan to be doing some of the following:

-Care and rehabilitation of rescued elephants and monkeys

-Construction of schools and playgrounds for impoverished children

-Teaching English to orphaned and underprivileged children

-Community infrastructure improvements such as schools

-Wildlife research and protection

-Protection of vital mangrove ecosystems

-Developing eco-tourism practices for rural communities.

-Sustainable development in rural fishing and hill tribes communities

-Environmental education programs

I'm thrilled to start preparing for this life changing journey, however, I have come face-to-face with one major setback … money. This trip will cost an estimated $3,995 with an additional cost of around $435 for air fare within Thailand, coming to a total of $4,430. This does not include round trip airfare to Thailand, which I plan to cover myself. I would be humbled to have your help for me to afford this life-changing experience!

I plan to use what I have in my savings to help offset the cost a little bit.  However, this will not be enough money to go on this trip.  I am willing to do whatever it takes to make this service trip more affordable, starting with getting a job, administering fundraisers and improving my ability to "budget" as a sophomore in college.

My hope for this trip is to be engulfed in a positive, loving, and culturally diverse environment where I can not only come back feeling like I have made a lasting impact in the wildlife and lives of other, but also that I will come back with a new and improved appreciation for other world views and sense of personal growth that will lead to more service upon my return.

I will gratefully receive any donation you are willing and able to contribute! I will not be able to make this trip happen without your financial support!

Please call me or contact me through Facebook messenger if you have any questions.

Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,
Morgan Pieper
