Morgan is just 3 years old and was diagnosed with a very rare and complex form of cancer in October 2021 named an adrenocortical carcinoma (ACC). He had major surgery in December 2021 to remove an abdominal tumour in Birmingham and had lung surgery in May 2022 in London.
He began an incredibly tough 8 rounds of chemo after Christmas 2021 and finished in July 2022. Oral chemotherapy is ongoing and we are now awaiting end of treatment scans. It’s been a heartbreaking journey which has seen our family unit pushed to the limit- especially as our daughter, Rhiannon, is also still so young (1).

We have been very lucky to receive help from three charities during our journey;

LATCH Welsh Childrens cancer charity have provided us with a dedicated support worker, emotional and financial support. They also provide a parents kitchen on the ward, and free accommodation/facilities on the next floor up for parents on the cancer ward.

Noah’s Ark Hospital Charity fund many of the staff/facilities in the hospital including play specialists, physiotherapists, dog therapy, activities and so much more. The whole family has benefitted.

Ronald McDonald House Cardiff provide home from home accommodation with superb facilities for families with sick children which is just across the road. It’s very much just like a hotel and so can feel like a much needed break from the clinical hospital environment. The staff work tirelessly to support families with activities and small events. The house has been invaluable as they have allowed Rhiannon to stay in Cardiff with us- so that we could remain as a family.

Kids Cancer Charity - Provided us with post treatment support and play therapy for Morgan to help him recover. They also provided us with an amazing opportunity for a special family holiday to Disneyland Paris- and they do this for many families to help them make memories.

With all this support in mind we set up ‘Morgan’s Fund for Charity’ this is simply a means of raising funds in one place that we can split between the charities and other causes. Causes we have supported include treatment/bucket list funds for some friends we have on the ward, smaller charities such as Wiggly Ts and Pyjama Fairies (who both create and gift specialist clothing to children with cancer).

These funds go a long way and are all given in Morgan’s name- to hopefully show him in future that lots of good can come from adversity.

Thank you ❤️
