Moria Medical Support
Donation protected
Boat Refugee Foundation, Doctors Without Borders, Docmobile and Eurorelief support our initiative. Will you support us as well?
Since the 1st of January 2018, the people living in Moria camp on Lesvos, Greece, were left without medical care in the evening and at night, making living there even more unsafe than it already was.
This was the reason for us, former medics of BRF (Boat Refugee Foundation), to start MMS, Moria Medical Support.
Coming from war-torn countries, many patients suffer from untreated physical diseases, as well as severe psychiatric conditions due to the trauma they have experienced both in their own country and on their journey to Greece. Furthermore, living in an overpopulated, unsafe and dirty place like Moria causes a range of medical and psychiatric conditions in its own right. The medical care during the daytime is far from sufficient and for most people, is inaccessible.
We are not under the illusion that we can solve the medical situation in the camp with this mission, or change the appalling conditions there - this must happen at the level of Greek/European politics.
We are also unable to provide the range of services that we could with BRF i.e. primary care, care for the many cases of SGBV (sexual and gender based violence) and specialised wound care. But, what we can do is attempt to prevent people we care about from getting seriously hurt in this situation. So until a new medical actor moves in, or the Greek governmental agencies take up their responsibility, MMS will provide both emergency medical care and emergency psychiatric care during the hours that all other medical care is absent.
All our doctors work as volunteers and pay for their own expenses, but we still need to purchase things like medication and infusion materials and cover expenses that keep this project running.
Other actors - Boat Refugee foundation, Doctors Without Borders, Docmobile and Eurorelief - support our initiative.
We are very grateful for your support. If you want to contribute and prefer a banktransfer over GoFundMe, here are the details of the acccount we use:
