Matthew’s health battles began when he was just over a year old. A benign tumor on his optic nerve was treated with surgery, leaving him with only tunnel vision in one eye, and the subsequent whole brain radiation causing other long-term disabilities. At age 13, the original tumor began to change and was again treated with surgery and chemotherapy. Matt has been disabled his whole life.
As a young child, Matt heard the prayer-song “Make Me a Servant” and right then and there, decided serving others would be his life goal. Despite his disabilities, he has given his life to making others happy, especially children. He has helped with kid’s church; entertained as a puppeteer; tutored and babysat for neighborhood children; made weekly visits to a nursing home; mastered origami and balloon art with which he would don a clown persona and create various characters to the delight of the young and old; and, for 15 years, he has volunteered as an aide at a local elementary school … he has stayed true to his decision. He befriends everyone he meets, telling jokes, puns and leaving them with his favorite saying, “Just for that you are required to have a good day!” His email name is "The Punster”.
A year ago, Matt was diagnosed with extremely aggressive brain cancer. Multiple surgeries and rounds of radiation and chemo therapies have not stopped its spread which now leaves him legally blind and cognitively disoriented. He and his family need help with expenses for home healthcare and caregivers to accommodate his growing frailties, possible alternative therapies, as well as final expenses.
Matthew’s lifelong faith in the Lord gives him solid knowledge that his destination is into the open and loving arms of his heavenly “Daddy”. To speak to him at this point is pure joy … he continues to spread love to his fellow man and his ability to laugh when he and all around him suffer his losses is truly inspiring – please help this family to make his life as comfortable and enjoyable as possible.
God bless you for your prayers and any contribution you might make.
