I grew up without anything to do after school or summers because we were less fortunate.
There are still so many kids facing this today--right now.
We can change this--together!
Please help me build a new second home for our kids--a community center that is free, safe and happy place for the critically under served kids of Englewood on the South Side of Chicago.

LaTanya's Story
I am that little black girl…
I am that little black girl born and raised in Englewood, on the South Side of Chicago. As a child there was nothing for me to do. My family was less fortunate so that limited fun activities for me my brothers and sisters. The parks were not in walking distance of my school so I had no other choice but to go home. There were no resources for kids like myself. We just sat around doing nothing because we couldn’t afford a summer program.
Now I am that little black girl as an adult...
I am LaTanya Johnson. I am the Director of LaTanya & The Youth of Englewood, a 501c3 non-profit organization for youth ages 5 and up. We offer recreational activities and field trips, entertainment, educational programing, entrepreneurship, outreach initiatives and events, mentorship, advocacy and support. I do all this free of charge. I have never forgotten what my mother and so many mothers couldn’t afford. I want to let working parents know that I understand and I am here to help them.
Nothing has changed for little black girls and boys on the southwest side of chicago...
On June 6, 2020, I found out some disturbing news, another entity will be purchasing our building (6020 S. Halsted)! They are going to tear it down and rebuild a community Center of there own. I was not aware this was going to happen?” I went completely blank. I feel i should have been notified to make future plans for the children our organization service.
Nothing has changed for little black girls and little black boys on the southwest side of
Chicago, who still live in poverty, a lack of resources and violence. Who do we keep letting down? Our children.
But you and I I will not let these kids down....
Please help me build a LaTanya & The Youth of Englewood Community Center on the southwestside of Chicago where it will always be free, safe and inspiring for the kids.
