Mother witnesses beloved son's murder
Donation protected
On Saturday, November 21, 2020, Barbara Ann Williams, 78, witnessed her youngest son, Karl Williams, receive his Master's degree from Claflin University in Orangeburg, SC. Three weeks later, on December 14, 2020, she witnessed the same son get shot and killed in the home where she raised him. Her son Karl was her caretaker, her cook
, her personal Uber to doctor's appointments; now she is alone, grieving, in shock and in need of support.
Karl was a man who believed in community, church and family. He never left his childhood home, instead staying to help his parents, even after earning a Bachelor's degree and becoming a beloved coach, teacher and mentor in Orangeburg County Schools. After the passing of his father in 2018, Karl committed to his lifelong goal of earning a Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction so he can continue to educate the children who adored and looked up to him.
As Karl rested in his bedroom and his mother sat in the living room, a knock was heard at the front door. Karl would never let his mother answer the door at night, so he left his bedroom and went to answer the door. As he looked out to see who was calling, seven shots rang out, hitting Karl in the torso. His mother crawled next to him and comforted him as he passed away. The terror of violent crime hit our beloved Coach Karl in the home where he grew up; in the community that was supposed to uplift and revere him.
Police are investigating the horrific crime and the family is hopeful that the perpetrators will be captured and brought to justice. In the meantime, a mother is left with the need for expensive medical care, doctor visits and a new start in a place different from the home that she lost both her husband and her son in.
The family is asking for donations to assist in Barbara Ann's medical care and housing. We are looking to raise $4,000 but ANY donation is appreciated and not too small. For those who want to contribute to Karl's arrangements, please instead consider helping to contribute to Barbara Ann's care in the loss of her son. A mother is not supposed to live her days in grief. Help us make her comfortable and find peace in the midst of this horrific storm.
Please send your donations, in any amount, to help Barbara Ann Williams. She needs your support now.
Thank you and blessings,
Shawn Williams, M.Div.
