MotheRED Fundraiser
Donation protected
MotheRED is a time-limited project focussed on financially supporting mums to be selected and then elected as Labour Party candidates in the next General Election. By donating to this crowdfunder you can join us ensuring childcare costs are not a barrier to participation in politics.
MotheRED will be making direct grants to candidates- thanks to the generosity of our supporters, we have raised enough money to fund a first round of candidates through selection- with this crowdfunder we are seeking to increase the funds we have available to support a greater number of candidates. By helping mum stand for selection we want to ensure that every part of the Labour Party is always on the side of mums - whether in parliament, in employment or in the community!
Who We Are
The MotheRED grants will be determined by a board of ambassadors representing every part of the Labour movement, from our parliamentary representatives and socialist societies to grassroots members and local Government. They will decide the criteria for funding and who is funded following an application process that is open to any mum who is eligible to stand as a Labour candidate to apply for - for more details of the application process please visit www.mothered.org.uk.
The MotheRED policies
Every MotheRED candidate is expected to help campaign for policies which support mums and the 'This Mum Votes' agenda. These include reform of the benefits system, ring-fenced paternity leave, flexible working by default and a high quality, affordable and universal childcare system. These policies mean that backing a MotheRED candidate you are also helping not just put mums at the heart of decision making but also to ensure public policy is on the side of new mums, not working against them.
Our Mission
We know that politics works best when everyone has a seat at the table, but at the moment, the Good Parliament project shows that mums are often deterred from standing for election. This in turn means that their experiences don’t get heard, and policies which would work for mums don’t get the attention they deserve. We want to change that by getting more mums into Parliament, onto councils and active in our politics as Labour representatives.
What We Do
The rules on selection in the Labour Party recently changed to cap costs for selection campaigns, but specifically exclude childcare costs from this cap- yet without access to funds during this critical time it is still a barrier to participation. That's why the MotheRED women will receive direct grants to support them to stand for selection as Labour candidates and cover these costs, with additional support will be available for those who need it, including single mums and those raising children with SEND. We know that financial barriers and the cost of childcare stop too many women from putting themselves forward for selection, and these grants are designed to help overcome these.
Who can donate
All the monies raised as part of this project will be distributed to candidates - that means you need to be eligible to donate to a political party in the UK. Therefore please note we may contact you using the information you supply to ensure this is the case. Donations are regulated by the Representation of the People Act 1983. This site will ask for your details to be able to verify you are eligible to donate and if we can't confirm you are eligible to donate, we will cancel the donation.
By making a donation to this campaign you understand and accept the following: If I am making a donation of more than £50, checks will be made to ensure my name is included on a UK electoral register (excluding the Isle of Man and Channel Islands). This information will be available for public inspection on request, although my home address will not be made public. The money you use to make a donation must be from your own funds. This donation facility is provided for individuals to make donations to the MotheRED fund. UK companies, limited liability partnerships, trade unions and unincorporated associations may also make donations. Please contact the team at [email redacted].uk for more information.
The Candidates who receive the funding collected by this fundraiser will all be members of the Labour Party who will be running for selection as Labour Candidates for the next general Election. The funds will be managed by MotheRED, a Members Association, and split between the candidates based on various criteria following an application process, all funds raised will go to candidates. Funds will be spent in the form of grants, supporting candidates who are standing for selection with the cost of barriers such as Childcare which have previously stopped many Mums from standing.
