MOTHERS MANIFESTO - Join Us in Ending Child Hunger
Any and all donations are so appreciated and will go toward building our campaign. Read our story below, or find out more at our website https://www.mothermanifesto.com/
Mothers Manifesto started a year ago with a six day Mothers Hunger Strike outside Parliament from Mothers Day 2023. This was to highlight the reality of many both in the UK and globally who are unable to feed themselves or their children. We are calling for those in power to meet their legal responsibility by providing the required resources and environmental protection that ensure the human right to adequate food now and into the future.
Situation
In the UK a million children live in destitution, with 4.2 million children living below the poverty line. Many mothers are skipping meals daily in order to feed their children, and still children in one of the richest nations are going hungry. Globally 2.3 million children die every year from malnutrition, this is something which is completely avoidable, malnutrition and famine are always manmade, a political choice. This is an escalating global crisis increasingly driven by climate breakdown along with issues of social, climate and racial injustice.
Solution
Mother’s Manifesto joins the voice of many others calling for the rapid positive action needed.
Our Manifesto for change includes the following demands:
- Making sure all children in the UK have enough to eat; including universal free school meals, a universal credit, which guarantees life’s essentials and a living wage as minimum
- The UK government keeps its promises on foreign aid and climate and cancels debt for the poorest nations.
- Loophole-free windfall tax on oil and gas companies’ record profits
We need your help!
We have achieved a lot in a year: two meetings in Parliament, cross-party support, and support from key organisations. We held a second long strike from Mothers Day 2024 and several 24 hour strikes throughout the year. We have had substantial media coverage on TV and radio and on the Monday of our last strike we were in 22 different papers.
Your support would allow us over the next year to:
- Support travel and expenses to give talks and host meetings around the country
- Build further networks with other groups and organisations
- Finance administrative help to assist the campaign
- Continue to meet with MPs and have further meetings within Parliament.
- Enable us to support a greater diversity of mothers to participate in our actions
Thank you so much for your support. With unwavering determination together let's make a world where no child goes hungry.
And while we need funding, we also need people: JOIN US HERE
