Mother's unpaid water bill due to missing invoice

Hello, my name is Maria, and I'm raising money to help my mother pay off a 6000 dollar water bill that has accumulated over the last few years. Our previous landlords had forgotten to send her a notice for an unpaid monthly invoice, which kept amounting interest until they threatened to take her to court this year (conveniently). As my mother is an undocumented immigrant, she is scared to go to court over this matter, no matter how in the right she is. I have been trying to raise as much money as I can, and I am attempting to find a new source of employment with no luck. I'm not one to plead for money online, and I will still try my hardest to be able to cover any extra expenses that come in the next few months, but for my mother, I am willing to do whatever is necessary.
