Motorized wheelchair and help for Laura

Anyone who knows Laura Oosterom knows that she is always the first to lend a helping hand because Laura is a giver at heart! Well, Laura could use a helping hand. 

Laura's mobility has declined and she is in desperate need of a motorized wheelchair to allow access to a higher level of comfort and care..Laura's home also requires some renovation  to address accessibility.Presently she cannot close her bathroom door to use the bathroom.

Laura's very limited income allows for the  basics but these are very major expenses ...this is where she needs some help.

Laura is a very humble person and would never ask for any help…convincing her to accept help was no easy task.

 Years of pain and surgeries have taken its financial and physical toll. We would like to raise enough to help her with the cost of a new chair and subsidize her bathroom renovation.

LAURA’S HISTORY:

Laura contracted polio when she was 1 1/2 years old. She had special shoes as a toddler and leg braces thru out her teens and into her 30’s. 

The right side of her body has always been weaker and smaller then her left side. Numerous ankle and tendon surgeries have left damage too severe to allow fusing so she hesitantly opted for amputation below the knee. 

45 plus years of physical labor has taken a toll on Laura's body with scoliosis, degenerative discs, and arthritis throughout her back…throw in a total knee replacement on her “good” leg. 

She has a spinal cord stimulator implant to relieve "some" of the nerve pain. Laura was forced to surrender her license which took away the little bit of independence she had left! 

Laura has her good days and bad just like everyone else but says she’s feels very lucky to have such an amazing support system. Her friends act as chauffeurs, sounding boards, pillows to cry on, and cheerleaders. 

Laura is thankful to all who have helped her through. Without this help she feels she’d be in a totally different place.
