Fundraising to relocate the Cincinnati Gardens relief sculptures!
As the living descendants of Hank Mott, the artist responsible for creating the six larger-than-life limestone sculptures that adorn either side of the Cincinnati Gardens entrance, we are working hard with the Greater Cincinnati Redevelopment Authority (GCRA) to determine a new future for the artwork. As GCRA demolishes the Gardens building in 2017-18, they have generously arranged for the hand-removal of the sculptures and for their transport to a “holding area” until a final home for them can be determined. The Art Academy of Cincinnati has expressed interest in assisting throughout their journey – they will educate the public on the historic value of the sculptures; work on a plan to display them; and help us promote this fundraising effort. Our team at MottReliefs is talking with many people connected with the Gardens – it is our intention to make sure at least one set is displayed publically – that was the wish of Elizabeth “Libby” Mott, the late-wife of the artist.
ONLY WITH YOUR HELP can we make sure these sculptures are moved and displayed at destinations that will continue to enrich our community for decades to come! THIS IS A TRULY UNIQUE opportunity to invest in a storied part of Cincinnati’s history. Because it is not your everyday kind of art project, we do not yet know how much it will cost to move and display the limestone bas reliefs – we will post updates on what we find out. We know the cost could easily exceed $50,000. Thank you for your support! Please know that for large donors, there is opportunity for public acknowledgement of sponsorship and participation in the future dedication. Any remaining funds will go help with future projects similar to this one, with the help of the Art Academy of Cincinnati.
