I am honored to inform you that I will go back to Jamaica this year again as a participant in my University's global service project! This year we will concentrate our time improving the school's library. Last year I asked for you to buy supplies, however, this year we have a list of things we plan to bring so I am asking for financial support to purchase the items and pay for the extra bag fee to bring the items to the school. I only have two weeks before I leave and need to purchase the supplies so forgive me for the last minute request. This is then just a one week fundraiser, yikes!
Many of you might know this already, but I want to share with you my personal story and why my heart is invested in returning to the school this year. The student I worked with last year, he was only in fourth grade. He was hit by a motorcycle and killed in July (this past summer). I intend to reconnect with his friends and give them key chains with his photo on the keychain. I understand his best friend's mother passed away from AIDS only a week earlier to his death. There is soo much trauma there that the school counselor told me that most kids do have ADHD and it is common for kids to know people who are shot and killed weekly in Negril. Any amount you can give is a blessing to these children and the school welcomes us there to help them improve their library! Thank you for your donation! like last year, I will post photos of the kids and the donations! I love you all and appreciate your kindness towards this noble goal. I will not lie, it will be difficult for me to return and not see my little guy, Ramon. However, I will be returning as a certified brainspotting practitioner/therapist so I can share my knowledge with the school counselor and work with the students who continue to suffer the grief of losing their dearest friend and my student. Please pray I can offer some little sense of comfort to this amazing community that deserves our attention! Thank you again for your kindness!
