Moving Black to Minnesota
This fundraiser is to support me because I'm Black and we're moving back to Minnesota. By 'we', I mean my girl and me. We are community servants from MN who moved away a few years ago and are finally ready to come home.
This money will not only go to us. We live our service and every dollar that we are given beyond our need will go directly to the community.
The proceeds from this fundraiser are intended for the following:
- the cost of our move (which is much more than we imagined)
- the repair of our totaled car
- our debt (college & health & death & shit)
- scholarships & classes & education of Black folks
- my Mama, an Air Force veteran and nurse of over 50 years (but even if she wasn't, my blessings her blessing)
- groceries & rent & household items for Black families
- programs that directly serve Black children & the safety of Black people
- supporting young, reckless, & necessary Black businesses (old ones too)
- paying Black organizers & artists who have doing this work from day one
To be clear, our moving needs are about $11,000. If you can support only that, we comin out on top.
We are both accustomed to modest living and are from cultures that hold mountains of shame in asking for anything, especially money, ESPECIALLY when struggling. To make this fundraiser took weeks of conversation and hours of tummy-ache ridden perseverating over if it was even okay to ask our community to support us. We would not have made it if we didn't have every belief that it was absolutely necessary. We may not even survive the move.
I've spent hours organizing a network of checkpoints and caravans to get us there safely, pero... Po Tee Weet.
I lived most of my life terrified of being a burden to those around me and I have devoted my entire life to serving my community. My hope is that by making this fundraiser, I am making it possible for my community to support me in supporting my community - an equation that I pray spells out community wealth that far outlives me.
