Erin's Spinal Cord Recovery Fund

Before September 6, 2015, Erin was a mother with two young children and a full-time college student.  On that Sunday, she was sitting on a raft in a pool when a friend jumped in, landing on top of her.  In that moment, her life was forever changed.  The impact resulted in several cervical vertebrae being fractured and her spinal cord being damaged, leaving her paralyzed and unable to breathe on her own.  

After five weeks in a Southern California hospital, and relentless perseverance by her mother, Erin was moved to Craig Hospital in Denver, Colorado.  Craig Hospital is a world-renowned rehabilitation facility that specializes in neuro-rehabilitation of patients with spinal cord injuries.   Upon her arrival, the doctors identified another fracture at C-2--C-3 that required additional surgery.   Now post surgery, she is ready to begin the long, hard journey towards regaining her independence.

Erin is fortunate that her medical insurance will cover many of the costs of her treatment.   However, there are many expenses associated with her recovery and rehabilitation that will not be covered by insurance.  The funds raised will help to cover the costs of the assistive technology and the specialized equipment she'll need for personal care, communication, transportation and home modification.   There will also be costs associated with her long-term rehabilitation and follow-up care.

"It is during our darkest moments that we must focus to see the light."  We have faith that with prayers and the support of family and friends, Erin will make it through this.
