Jacob's Journey

Donation protected
Please help support a friend and fellow Army mom and her family.
A couple of us Army mom's spoke and we wanted to help this family in any way we can for unexpected expenses for travel, food, hotel, loss of work and unforeseen future expenses.
Christy and Ron have two young boys at home and because of this tragic accident, they have to travel two hours one way to and from home to the hospital to be at his bedside to spend as much time as they can with their Army son Jacob, who has suffered multiple life threatening injuries.
It would mean so much for your help as he has been serving our country and we would like it if you could just help them out to give back to this brave U.S. Soldier and his family. They have so much to worry about, so please lets try to help ease the burden of some expenses. Every little bit of a donation can help them in their time of need.
Thank you!

Here is his story....

"My name is Christy Vuocolo and my husband Ron and I are the parents of our 20 year old son, Army Specialist Jacob Vuocolo.
On December 28, 2015, Jacob was on his way back to Fort Bragg, NC when he was involved in a tragic car accident in the fog and lost control of his car and hit several trees around 1:00 am.
We were in Michigan for the holidays when I received a call from McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence, South Carolina at 3:23 am.  All they would tell me was that he was stable, so we packed up and left Michigan as quickly as possible.
We arrived at the hospital on Tuesday morning and learned that our son broke his back(T-8 vertebrae), his scapula, which we learned was the hardest bone in the body to break, every rib on his left side as well as serious chest & lung injuries.
The Neurosurgeon told us that spinal surgery had to be performed immediately on Wednesday, December 30, 2015 due to the risk of Jacob being paralyzed or the injury being fatal.  We were told that was the only option with that type of injury.  The surgery itself was successful, but in order for the surgery to happen the doctors had to forcefully collapse his right lung to get to the spine.
Since then, the doctors have not been successful in reinflating Jacob's right lung resulting in a Pneumothorax in the right lower quadrant of his lung.
Both lungs had severe bruising which are like tiny holes allowing air to seep out into his chest cavity, keeping the lungs collapsed.  He has 3 chest tubes on the left side and as of January 20, 2016 now has 3 chest tubes on the right side.  Those chest tubes are suctioning air out to keep the lungs inflated.
He now has a tracheotomy and feeding tube and the doctors are keeping him paralyzed to help him heal.
We live in Leland, North Carolina and are driving 2 hours each way and staying in a hotel as needed to see our son in the Critical Care Intensive Care Unit.  He has been there 3 weeks and 5 days."
