‼️Mr. Canterbury’s Vet Update!‼️

So, Mr. C has a lot going on. His vet said that in the past week or two an animal either mauled him/or he was taken as bait for dog fights due to the extent of his injuries (he has rope burns around his neck). He has numerous deep puncture wounds that are infected, which the one on his neck was drained today. He has several broken/fractured toenails that are unfortunately severely infected so they need to be removed. Mr. C has broken off both of his lower canine teeth at the gum line, and one of his upper canines is fractured down the middle, which has caused an abscess that is suspected to be the source of infection in his face. All 3 broken teeth are infected and have to be extracted. Mr. C also has a tear in his eyelid that’s causing the tissue to rub against his eye so they need to put a stitch in his eyelid and trim the excess tissue away. We haven’t gotten the results back from his blood work so we don’t know if he has anything else going on that the vet couldn’t see.

With there being so many different things going on we really wanted to come up with the best course of action for Mr. Canterbury that will be as minimally traumatizing for him as possible in addition to cutting cost as much as we can. So his vet suggested to give her a day to get with the other doctors in the office so that they could coordinate a surgery where he is given his microchip, neuter, wound cleaning, toenail and teeth extractions, all in one surgery appointment. However they need multiple doctors to do it, so she will be getting back to me with those numbers by tomorrow or Wednesday at the latest. For now he’s on antibiotics and gabapentin, soft food diet, he received all of his vaccines and did a full blood work up.

Our financial goal will likely increase in the upcoming days when we receive the surgery estimate, but we’re trying to be as optimistic as possible although I’d be lying if I didn’t say I was feeling a little stressed.

Mr. Canterbury is a neighborhood celebrity but his story is anything but glamorous. He’s a known stray cat that was abandoned by his owner several years ago and has been on his own ever since. Only with the help of neighbors providing kibble, water, and cracked garage doors to escape the elements has Mr. Canterbury been able to survive all this time. However, he has not fared well in the freezing winters and scorching summers on his own amongst the other animals, the streets have taken its toll on this sweet boy and it shows. So my wife Carly and I have decided to take on the task of rescuing this little guy and giving him an awesome life, with us. We’re aware he has some challenges ahead and so we’re asking for help to ensure he has the very best care to get him well.

Our plan for Mr. Canterbury will be going to the vet first thing Monday morning (7/17) due to his current condition. This will be huge to get him the care he so desperately needs as he has clearly been mauled by an animal recently. He will need all his shots, blood work, heart guard, an X-Ray, wound flushing and perhaps stitches, medication, neutering, microchipped and a much needed bath and flea dip. As most know, these things are quite expensive and can add up fast depending on what he will need.

Thanks to our amazing neighbors in the community we have kibble/wet food, a cat carrier, litter box, a bed and toys! Thank you all so much from the bottom of my heart. I’m looking forward to seeing this sweet boy smile, he deserves this.
