Support Katie's Dad's End of Life Expenses
Donation protected
My name is Ashley and I am fundraising on behalf of my friend and roommate Katie Kroll.
Our dear friend Katie’s dad, Martin John Kroll, has recently been diagnosed with late stage Squamous cell carcinoma in his throat. His diagnosis comes as a devastating shock. Katie has traveled to Kelowna to be with her dad, navigating a whirlwind of emotions and finishing her last year of university, all whilst trying to make sure his last days are full of laughter and fun. As time passes, his airway continues to be restricted. He is unable to eat solid foods and his breathing is becoming more and more difficult every day. He has chosen to enter hospice on Tuesday, and to move forward with having a medically assisted death. This particular type of cancer is painful and scary as breathing becomes more difficult. Katie is in full support of his decision, despite how hard it will be to lose him. She needs our support during this difficult time.
At this point, Katie has had to leave work and university unexpectedly to be there to support her dad. Her dad is a simple man, and he doesn’t have much in the way of savings, but she is determined to make sure his final days are as love filled as possible. Katie is taking responsibility for all costs related to taking care of her dad. Each donation, no matter the amount, will go a long way.
Funds raised will be used to cover: clothes and toiletries for the hospice, the cost of hospice care, cremation/funeral costs, accommodations near the hospice for while Katie is in Kelowna, lawyer fees for execution of the will, rent for his current place, car rental while in Kelowna for errands and to take him on a few fun excursions. His last wish is to go for a drive in a Tesla. Your donations will also cover transportation costs for Katie to go back and forth to Nanaimo as needed, rent a uhaul van to transport his things, purchase cleaning supplies to clean out his apartment, missed pay from not being able to work while navigating this, and all the other unexpected costs that will come up along the way. Katie’s priority is to make sure her dad has the best possible last days of his life, gets the opportunity to cross some things off his bucket list with his daughter, and feels loved.
Reaching out for help is difficult, but Katie is doing her best to navigate this time while leaning on her friends for support. The donations received will be very carefully thought out before spending. Thank you all in advance for your generosity. Katie appreciates any and all support you can offer.
