Mr. Leishman and Mrs. Leishman Need Help!

Ivan Leishman has been a huge presence in the Minnesota Scouting Community for 25 years. He guided over 50 boys through Eagle and OA, acted as Chaplain, performed first aid at many OA, Chapter and Troop events (Maple Grove Troop 584), and taught many of our kids to swim and perform first aid.

Mr. Leishman’s wife, Denise, had emergency surgery on December 23, 2023 to remove blood clots that were blocking her bowels. Surgeons removed the life-threatening clots but could not remove all clots. While on a ventilator, clots traveled to Denise’s heart, lungs and brain, and she had a stroke and a pulmonary embolism. She lost the ability to use her left side, lost some vision, and lost cognitive abilities. She is able to talk, but her speech doesn’t keep up with her thoughts. She can tense the muscles in her left arm and leg, but she cannot move them. Denise is now in a rehab facility, hoping to regain some use of her left side and improve her speech, vision and mental processing.

While she will be approved for disability, this won’t cover all expenses, it won’t replace her income, and it won’t provide care for her.

Given the significant contributions Mr. Leishman has made to the scouting community and our sons, we hope scouts and parents will rally and raise money to pay off existing and expected bills. Denise is facing years of rehab and needing assistance.
